What is the answer Solar, Wind, Hydro, Thorium!

Regarding the following question from a reader:

"After reading the article by Robert Gonzaga in the Inquier.net which says.. " build a coal fired power plant in Sitio Naglatore in Subic Town which is inside Subic Bay Freeport". Is this accurate? Last time I looked Subic Town was not inside the Freeport.
I agree with the board not to allow a coal fired plant to be built. On so many levels it is wrong. Why not invest alittle more and build a solar plant? That would be truly "world class."

The Subic Bulletin:  There is also a plan to build wind turbine power generation in Subic Bay but wind and solar produce much less power output for the size of the plant required. Companies like those in the consortium to build a power plant in Subic Bay are concerned with the cost per megawatt and very little else. Their claims that the the plant is clean burning are garbage, in The United States where very strict compliance is required the heath costs of Coal plants is estimated by The Earth Policy Institute in Washington DC as USD $160 Billion Annually. But these companies are clearly focused on their own agenda which is financial and have no regard for the thousands of Filipinos that will be cast into ill health, because sure as can be Aboitiz and their cronies will not be picking up the bill for the healthcare holocaust they are thrusting upon an unwilling community.

SO, WHAT IS THE ANSWER?

Here at The Subic Bulletin we have been watching the development of a new energy source which could be deployed locally called Thorium.
Thorium is turned into power is a similar way to uranium but there are two key differences between thorium and uranium power.

1) Thorium is relatively safe, there is no chance of a Thorium reactor going out of control, some scientist friends tell us a thorium reactor would not be much more dangerous than the coastal fuel storage depot already inside the Freeport.

2) Thorium is in abundance worldwide and is much cheaper to run than most other fuels.

One of the truly exciting aspects of Thorium is that you can convert an existing nuclear power facility into a thorium power station and don't we happen to have an abandoned nuclear power station in Bataan that would be perfect for a new project that is safe to the community?

We know the consortium is building next to Hanjin so they can have a big consumer who is assisting there objectives whether financially or politically but their economics don't do anything for a community that does not want them under any circumstances.

The worlds 3 biggest developing economies Russia, India and China all recognize Thorium as the new power generation fuel for the future and are building Thorium power plants.

If we are ever to climb up out of the pit of corruption and deception the Philippines is in we need to look at alternatives like Thorium.

We are not saying that Thorium is the only answer, Solar and Wind are best but if the lower yield of Solar and Wind is the excuse for not using these sources here in Subic Bay, then Thorium is a viable alternative. Polluting Subic Bay, killing its population slowly with coal just to make a few fat cats rich is just not acceptable to anyone.

  1. Thorium power plants could possible be built right in the shipyard and sent to a world wide market.
